| Stationary Propane InstallationPictured above is the most common standard two stage propane system. Two stage systems have a high pressure regulator at the propane tank. The gas line from the high pressure regulator runs over to the Low pressure regulator at the home. Propane is categorized three ways:
Above is a picture of a basic high pressure TYPE 1 or TYPE 2 kit tied into an existing propane system. Because most propane systems will have a high pressure regulator at the tank and a low pressure regulator where the gas enters the home, the TYPE 1 and TYPE 2 kits are designed to tie into the gas line from the high pressure side of the system, anywhere between the tank and the home. For this type of installation you would order a TYPE 1 or TYPE 2 kit when you look up your generator model or engine model in the appropriate kit list section. You may have reason for wanting to tie into the house pipe system AFTER the low pressure regulator. This is fine as well and will be considered a low pressure Type 3 or 4 Kit and the Type A and C Kits are for low pressure too. These kits are similar in operation as natural gas so for a more detailed description of low pressure use this link to read about this method described in detail on the Natural Gas page. To also use the same generator portably with smaller bottles or to have a full time portable generator, the use of a PGK accessory will also be required. This will allow a permanently installed generator to be disconnected from a stationary system and used portably with any size of portable propane cylinder. This method is described in detail at the Portable Propane page. |
